Back, Neck, Spine and Hip Injuries

Back, neck and spine injuries suffered by military service members are frequently caused by:

  • Slip-and-fall accidents
  • Vehicle accidents
  • Explosions
  • Carrying packs
  • Marches
  • Training exercises

In addition to accidents and acute trauma, back, neck and spinal conditions can be the result of cumulative trauma suffered over weeks, months or years of military service. For example, degenerative disc disease can be caused or aggravated by military service.

Debilitating neck and back pain is usually caused by an injury to the spinal discs. Common disc injuries include herniated discs, ruptured discs and compressed discs. The result may be chronic pain or, in catastrophic cases, paralysis, paraplegia or quadriplegia. These conditions may cause secondary injuries, such as pressure sores, respiratory problems and impaired organ function.

Back, neck and spinal injuries may also cause secondary effects to other parts of the body such as pain, numbness or tingling in the arms and hands. The hips, thighs, legs, knees, ankles and feet may also be affected. Pain and numbness may cause reduced muscle strength and loss of range of motion.

For these secondary effects to the extremities and hips, you can make a separate claim for each injured part of the body. Claims may include the right leg, left leg, right knee, left knee, etc. Our lawyers can discuss these claims with you.
